India’s top doubles player Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza won their respective matches to reach the second round of the US Open 2017.
Sania defeated Croatia’s Petra Martic and Donna Wyk 6-4, 6-1 in the Women’s doubles match with Chinese partner Shui Peng. Sania won easily with her partner Peng. Sania and Peng entered the next round in 55 minutes by winning the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Sania and Peng will now face Slovakia’s Jana Saplova and Magdalena Ryberkova.
Rohan Bopanna defeated American duo Bradley Lohan and Scott Lipsky 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas in Men’s doubles. After losing the first set 1-6, Rohan Bopanna and his partner Pablo returned to the next two sets with 6-3, 6-4. Now Bopanna and Pablo will be next in Italy’s team Simone Bolelli and Fabio Foginii.
In the second round, they will face Italy’s Simon Bolelli and Fabio Fognini.
Former Champion Kerber Out in the First Round
New Zealand’s present winner Angelique Karber has reversal in the first round of the women’s singles event of the US Open 2017 in the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year. She beat Japan’s young player Naomi Osaka 6-3, 6-1. According to media reports the world’s 45th seed Osaka easily beat Kerber in a 64-minute match.
Osaka planted 22 winners in the match. Kerber has been the first ever current champion since 2005 to break out in the first round of the US Open. The player of Japan said, “When I stepped into the stadium, I listened to the audience’s voice and saw how big the stadium is. I went a little bit, but I took care of myself.
She said, “Even when I took the lead in the match 4-1, I was a little nervous. But then I told myself that I just have to play and pressure does not prevail over me. Osaka said, ‘Last year’s experience came to my work. I felt like I knew how to play against top players.
